Colorado Birth Records
Finding early Colorado Birth Records and Death Records: In most cases local registrars are the best sources for early birth records. A microfiche index of approximately 3,000 Colorado births from 1863-1899 is available for free viewing at the Colorado State Archives. Colorado Births and deaths in Colorado were not officially registered with the State until approximately 1908. Before that time a very few counties may have recorded births and deaths. There is a birth and death index for Denver (1872-1903) which apparently only recorded births and deaths that occurred in a hospital. In Colorado only such records 100 years or older are open to public access. We would be happy to search the Denver Index or any other indexes we may have for other counties. Contact us concerning the county in which you are interested. For death records probate files may be available and are excellent sources for family historians.
